How About a Pink Iron??

by SP on October 5th, 2006

I was talking over at Aging Fabulous about just how much I hate ironing and I can’t say that I have changed my mind, but you have to admit that this iron really is gorgeous. And I can’t remember the last time I replaced my iron?? That gives you a pretty good idea of just how old it was, but the new one can’t hold a candle to this one!

It can’t hold a candle to this iron because it comes with a difference. “Iron out breast cancer and give thousands of women a chance to live smooth, healthy lives. With its high-polish stainless steel soleplate and 400 micro-steam holes, you’ll glide effortlessly and deliver perfect steam distribution to even the most delicate items. A high-precision tip bring steam to those hard-to-reach areas. Comfort handle. Extra-large 10 oz. water tank. One-year warranty.

*And, Rowenta will donate 100% of profits earned from the sale of this delightful pink iron to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation! Pretty cool!

Iron Trivia…

Hand irons are device useds for garment pressing, irons have been heated directly by gas flame, stove plate heat, or in the case of the modern iron by electricity. Henry W Seely patented the electric iron in 1882.

“Metal pans filled with charcoal were used for smoothing fabrics in China in the 1st century BC. From the 17th century, sadirons or sad irons (from an old word meaning solid) began to be used. They were thick slabs of cast iron, delta-shaped and with a handle, heated in a fire. A later design consisted of an iron box which could be filled with hot coals, which had to be periodically aerated by attaching a bellows. This type was on sale in the USA until at least 1902.” And I thought that I had it bad!

More modern irons known as “sad” irons, because the irons were real heavy. Guess that would make any housewife sad. No, seriously, the word sad meant heavy then. Good ole slang, always changing, you know that. But this is where we get the word “sad” from. Ironing was a chore to the housewife, making her feel unhappy. The word “sad” took on a new meaning.

If you have been putting it off, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so book yourself an appointment. We need to take care of ourselves and honestly, a mammagram doesn’t hurt a bit! Before my first one, I asked my mom! :)
