High Gloss is in Fashion
“Pumps, wedges, handbags, even headbands have been turning up at stores across Boston in an array of glistening colors.
With its slick, lacquered finish, patent leather can be undeniably bold, verging at times on cartoonish. But Jay Calderin, executive director of Boston’s Fashion Week and an instructor at the School of Fashion Design, says the key is to use it as an accent for an outfit. He likes small handbags, for instance, and shoes in muted colors such as rose.”
Did you notice the part about being… “cartoonish”?? And it’s not just in Boston where you are seeing these in your face colors and shine. I was in a shoe store just last week and I spotted a gorgeous pair of shoes, but I wasn’t overly keen on just how shiny they were. And it’s not just me. I overheard another woman come into the store and ask the sales clerk if she had the same pair without all the shine.
So, you are either going to love the new “high gloss” or you are going to hate it!!
